First Steps in Bariatric Career

Dr Antanas Mickevičius was trained for bariatric surgery in 2007, in Sahlgrenska University hospital, Gothenburg, Sweden. He underwent further advanced bariatric surgery training at San Carlos University hospital Madrid, Spain and The Whittington hospital London, UK.

Current Position

Dr Antanas Mickevičius is a highly experienced consultant in bariatric and upper GI surgery. He specialises in bariatric surgery (gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, revisional weight loss surgery) as well as is dedicated to the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and hiatal hernias.

He privately practices at Dental & Medical Clinic in Barking, where all preoperative investigations, including blood tests, ultrasound scans and upper GI endoscopies can be done. Dr Mickevicius carries out his bariatric surgeries in Kaunas, Lithuania and post-operative care here, at Dental and Medical Clinic in Barking.

Dr Mickevičius, who performs over 350 bariatric and anti-reflux surgeries a year, conducts regular clinics personally ensuring the highest safety standards, top quality preoperative preparation and postoperative follow up.

Dr Mickevičius’ clinical research work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals, while he has presented at several national and international conferences. He is also a member of various professional organisations including the International Federation of Surgery for Obesity (IFSO) and the Lithuanian Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery.        

Additionally, he is committed to educating future doctors, currently holding a position as a professsor at Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, as well as working to train fellow surgeons in general and bariatric surgery.
